Saturday Morning:
Workshop 1

Where Leaders are Really Made
– Jean Gamester: how we can all be better leaders through using our evaluation skills.

Evaluation is at the heart of Toastmasters. Speech evaluation, that is.

If Toastmasters is truly to be the place ‘Where Leaders are Made’, then we need to take our skills as speech evaluators and apply them to ourselves as leaders.

What’s the difference between speech evaluation and leadership evaluation?  Do we give our leaders constructive feedback, or do we avoid it? Do we give each other feedback when there is no other choice, or is it something we do systematically?  For anyone who is club officer, a district officer or indeed anyone who wants to be a better leader.

Biography: Jean is Division J Governor and last year’s Area Governor of the Year.   A member of Thame Speakers since 2006, she is a also founder member of Swan Speakers which chartered in 2010.  She runs and writes for business book review website www.betterbusinessbooks.co.uk and is a contributing author to the book Management Skills in IT.  At work, she delivers programmes of business and technology change, leading and coaching teams to do so.

Workshop 2
The Five Elements of the Perfect Speech – Dermot Greene

We all want a magic formula that will help us inspire and persuade, that will make your audience laugh and cry, call your listeners to action and make them remember your message forever.
Unfortunately there is no magic formula. Instead we have something better: five great speakers sharing with you the secrets they have gained from their many years of speaking: the five pillars of the perfect speech.

You joined Toastmasters to become a better speaker. With The 5 Elements of the Perfect Speech, you can build yourself into a world class orator. If you go to only one workshop this year, this is the one to go: 5 speakers, 5 elements, maximum impact.

Biography: Dermot Greene is a professional speaker, storyteller and trainer.  He has delivered presentations and workshops both in Ireland and across Europe. He is currently writing a book based on his successful Pimp My Slide workshop series. He has been an active member of Toastmasters for 4 years and has presented workshops at District 59 Conferences in Barcelona and Basel.
